Lavell Harris

A POLISHED TALENT SEEKS TO BE DISCOVERED
(Chicago, Il.) Lavell Harris is the type of player our camera’s love. First he’s a point guard, which instantly bolts him to the top of our favorites list. Hey 4’s and 5’s nothing against you guys at all; it’s just that the PG is usually the first to touch the ball, to set the play up, and arguably may be the most athletic player out there. With that as a standard, among other things, Lavell is a perfect fit at what a player at his position is suppose to be.  At 5’9” he is a super swift water bug on the floor who thinks as quick as he moves. High-speed hands shuffle the basketball all around his frame as he moves to deliver another eye-catching crossover fake or fracture an opponents ankles off into bits.

Harris is a senior set to graduate this year from Ada S. McKinley Lakeside High School, located near the south loop. This alternative school has been a major source of encouragement for him. He has excelled in his classes  and carries a strong G.P.A. (He’ll tell you all about it in his videos) and under a overwhelming amount of different head coaches he has excelled on the hardwood floor as well.

Harris needed to attend this school, but he knew that going here would obstruct the visibility of the basketball world to his skills and talents.  It was a sacrifice he was bright enough to accomplish, as he is well aware his class work must be primary. But as a alternative school, McKinley is not associated with any IHSA conferences or classes and therefore must forfeit the glory of playing against formidable foes and participating in March Madness.

Although that keeps his basketball profile flying well under the radar of the Chicago preps scene,  it does not deter his positive attitude and spirit; not only with dribbling a basketball but also with sitting in front of a class book.  Harris is evaluating college offers now, ranging from JUCO’S to D1’s. With help from family, he’ll make the correct selection and the secret will be out.
